Overview
Opus keeps its data on your device and, when you are signed in to iCloud, in a private database in your own iCloud account. Opus does not use an analytics SDK, advertising SDK, tracking technology, analytics backend, account system, or developer-operated server. The developer cannot see your followed artists, settings, or listening activity.
Apple services
Opus uses Apple Music and related Apple services to show catalog information and, when you authorize access, to provide personalized suggestions, library actions, and full-song playback. Those services are provided by Apple and are subject to Apple’s privacy policy.
Without Apple Music access, Opus uses Apple’s public iTunes Search and Apple Music feed services for artist search, releases, and recommendations. Those requests, including the artist names you search for, go directly to Apple.
Apple may provide the developer with aggregated App Store usage and diagnostic information, including crash and performance information, for users who enable Share With App Developers in iOS. Apple controls that sharing setting and the reporting process. Opus does not use this information to identify individual users.
Data stored on your device
Opus stores followed artists, discovered releases, which releases and tracks you have viewed, app settings, release filters, and operational diagnostics on your device. The app and widget share the data needed to present releases. Deleting Opus removes this data from your device. Anything synced to iCloud remains until you delete it, as described below.
iCloud sync
When you are signed in to iCloud, Opus syncs the following to a private database in your iCloud account, so your devices stay in step and reinstalling Opus can restore them:
- Followed artists: their Apple Music ID, name, artwork and Apple Music links, and genres.
- Your Opus settings, including release filters and filter keywords.
- Which releases and tracks you have viewed, stored as Apple Music IDs.
Discovered releases are not synced; each device downloads them from Apple. Your iCloud data is stored by Apple under your Apple Account and is subject to Apple’s privacy policy. The developer cannot access it.
Your choices and deleting data
- You can withdraw Apple Music or notification access at any time in iOS Settings under Opus.
- Erase All Content in Opus Settings removes your followed artists and discovered releases from this device, and removes your followed artists from iCloud and your other devices.
- To delete everything Opus keeps in iCloud, open iOS Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, and manage your account storage: choose Opus and delete its data. Opus then stops syncing and does not upload anything again until you choose Turn On next to iCloud Sync in Opus Settings.
- Diagnostic exports you send to the developer are deleted once your request is resolved. You can ask for earlier deletion using the contact details below.
Optional diagnostic sharing
You can choose Export Diagnostics in Opus Settings. Before sharing, Opus shows what the export includes. The generated JSON file may contain:
- App, iOS, device-category, authorization, background-refresh, cache-size, and local item-count context.
- Every user-facing Opus setting.
- Your exact user-entered release-filter keywords.
- Content-independent Opus operational log entries.
- MetricKit performance and diagnostic reports retained on your device.
The export is created only when you request it. Opus presents the standard iOS share sheet without a preset recipient and does not upload the file automatically. You decide whether to share it and which destination receives it. Temporary exports are deleted by Opus after the share sheet closes, and stale temporary exports are removed after one day.
The diagnostic design excludes catalog identifiers, artist/album/track names, searches, URLs, notification text, Core Data content, internal read-state identifiers, import bookkeeping, reconciliation cursors, onboarding/debug markers, and raw error descriptions.
If you choose to send a diagnostic export to the developer for support, it is used only to investigate that request and is deleted when it is no longer needed. A destination you select in the share sheet may apply its own privacy practices.
Data collection and tracking
Opus performs no automatic off-device transmission of custom analytics, logs, settings, or MetricKit payloads to the developer. Data synced through iCloud goes to your own iCloud account, not to the developer. Opus does not track you across apps or websites and does not request App Tracking Transparency permission.
Changes
This policy will be updated before Opus adds any materially different data collection, third-party analytics, cloud telemetry transport, or automatic diagnostic upload.
